Starting a new semester is always an exciting time of the year. It’s a fresh start and an opportunity to set new goals, but it also brings new challenges. To make the transition as smooth as possible, it’s important to be well-prepared. This means getting organized, setting a schedule, and making a plan for tackling any assignments or projects that are forthcoming. Please take care of yourself by getting enough sleep, eating well, and staying active.

Fall 2022 President’s List, Dean’s List, and Honor List
Join me in celebrating the 1,985 students that made the President’s List, Dean’s List, or Honor List for the Fall 2022 semester. Northwestern State University’s cheerleaders and mascot Vic the Demon brought home four top five finishes including a gold medal at the 2023 UCA/UDA College Nationals Championship and the University World Cup Championship earlier this week in Orlando, Florida.

MLK Day Celebration
I am thankful for all who participated in the MLK Day Celebration on Monday. As we reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we move forward into 2023 with inspiration to demonstrate unity through our daily actions. The dedication of our community, students, and leaders to set an example of unity should not only be evident today, but in every day to come.

Louisiana Thespians Conference
The Louisiana Thespians Conference is being hosted by NSU today and Saturday, with over 500 high school theater students and faculty in attendance. They will participate in classes, performances, and college and university discussions. Hosting this event serves as an effective recruiting tool for NSU.

Michael Yankowski: A Retrospective Exhibition
I encourage you to visit Orville Hanchey Gallery to view the work by retiring NSU Professor of Art Michael Yankowski. NSU has been fortunate to have Professor Yankowski as a member of our faculty in the Department of Fine and Graphic Arts for a number of years. We are honored to host this celebration to honor both his talent and the significant impact he has had on our university.

The artist’s reception is on Saturday, January 28, from 5:00pm – 8:00pm in Hanchey Gallery.

Resources for Students
NSU students have access to various support services, including counseling for academic and personal issues, financial aid, tutoring, extracurricular activities, a food pantry, and programs for managing emotional distress.

We are looking forward to a great semester and we are here to support you in any way we can. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your advisors or professors.

We anticipate your achievements this semester. Remember to stay positive and focused on your goals.
