As we head into a much-needed break from the daily operational and academic routines of the University, I am thankful for everyone’s continued engagement as we work to advance the NSU story, attract students to our outstanding programs, and offer support to them as they settle into University life. Ahead of the Thanksgiving Holiday, I am excited to share with you several things that show the commitment of our Faculty, Staff and Students.
Rapides Foundation Awards $4.5 million in Future of HealthC.A.R.E. Grants
I am pleased to announce that Northwestern State University was one of five organizations to be awarded a grant from The Rapides Foundation to address shortages in the Central Louisiana healthcare workforce. The $1,166,525 grant will develop an ongoing pool of K-12 students who are interested in pursuing healthcare careers and are academically prepared to succeed in postsecondary training programs. Please join me in congratulating Faculty and Staff form the Gallaspy Family College of Education and Human Develop on their grant award.
Southland Conference Champion Decided This Weekend
Our NSU Demons Football team is playing for the Southland Conference Championship this weekend. The Demons kickoff at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 19 against UIW Cardinals in Turpin Stadium. I hope you will start your Thanksgiving holiday by supporting the Demons. A victory for the Demons will secure an automatic bid to the FBS playoffs. Saturday will also be our observance of Military Appreciation Day, and we will pay tribute to military personnel.
In conjunction with Military Appreciation Day, we will also honor senior members of our football team, Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band, and our Demon Spirit Groups. We look forward to seeing you for tailgating and other activities to honor our Military personnel and seniors.
Lady Demons Advance in Southland Conference Tournament
Congratulations to the Lady Demon Volleyball team. Yesterday’s victory advances NSU to the quarterfinals of the conference tournament, where they will face No. 4 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi today at 2:00pm.
Upcoming End of Semester
As we look forward to our Thanksgiving holiday, I would also like to congratulate everyone on making it to this critical point in the semester! The last day of classes is approaching (December 2). I appreciate everyone’s commitment to assisting our students, advising them for a smooth transition to the Spring semester, and encouraging them to stay studious and committed to reaching their academic and personal goals.
I also want to notify you, that registration for Spring 2023 is open. If you have any questions regarding your registration or academic progress, please reach out to your advisor or academic departments.
I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving Holiday and break, and I look forward to seeing you all back on November 28 for a spring to the finish of the Fall semester.
