This week, we honored 1000+ graduates over four commencement ceremonies producing nearly 2100 graduates in the past year. This year’s graduates become part of a large and loyal contingent of nearly 80,000 alumni who have expanded the university’s prominence for 138 years through their meaningful contributions to every field of endeavor across the nation and world.
The accomplishments of our graduates are indicators of career readiness. We highlighted several of our graduates throughout the two-day commencement ceremony for leaving their impact on the university.
I watched with pride as seven Cadets of Northwestern State’s 72nd Demon Battalion were commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the U.S. Army. The Cadets took the Oath of Office during NSU’s final commencement ceremony and were commissioned in a later ceremony joined by family and friends.
The new officers are 2LT Anthony Cantrell, 2LT Kayla Graham, 2LT Colby Hennigan, 2LT Tyler Iverson, 2LT Caleb Krikorian, 2LT Joseph Orchi, and 2LT Seth Ozsoy. Congratulations and my sincere thanks to them and their families for their service and sacrifice to our great nation.
Two staff members of the University of Louisiana System selected Northwestern State University to earn their doctorates. Through the UL System’s initiative to raise educational attainment levels in the state through its nine-member institutions, NSU provided the opportunity for these individuals to further their education. I commend the faculty and staff for their efforts in providing an education of enduring value to all walks of life.
It is important to note that some of our graduates faced difficult circumstances throughout their academic pursuits. With courage, tenacity, and perseverance, these individuals earned their respective degrees, with many receiving honors distinction.
I hope your time at Northwestern State University was personal, valuable, and impactful. Please share your experiences with others so that they consider NSU as the next step in their academic journey. We trust that this week’s commencement ceremonies inspire you to believe that your goal is attainable, and we’re here to assist you in making that ambition a reality.
