A Message From The President – May 19, 2023

I am excited to share that the third annual Universities of Louisiana Black Male Summit will be held on June 21 – June 22 at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside. Hotel accommodations must be made prior to Friday, May 19th. You can register for the summit by clicking here.

The Black Male Summit presents a valuable occasion for the higher education community to recognize our advancements and reflect on the challenges that lie ahead in achieving equitable success for Black males. Throughout the two-day summit, we will explore a diverse range of crucial subjects, such as education, career opportunities, healthcare, criminal justice, digital and financial literacy, and government. Our objective is to motivate participants to make informed choices that have a positive influence on the Black male population and facilitate significant progress.

I invite you to join NSU’s Freshman Connection next week. This wide-ranging summer orientation program is specifically created to support our incoming freshmen in their transition to college, ensuring their academic and personal success. Over the next few months, we will welcome over 600 students through dynamic sessions, workshops, and various activities.

I express my deepest appreciation and gratitude for the service and professionalism of two individuals who have made an impact on our institution.

With over 30 years of experience at NSU, Jana Lucky will retire June 30th from Northwestern State University. Throughout her tenure, Jana served in various roles, including Director of Recruiting, Director of Enrollment Management, and Coordinator of Special Events. Jana’s ability to cultivate relationships, foster collaboration, and implement innovative strategies were valuable to her success at NSU.

Additionally, I would also like to express my sincere appreciation for the service and leadership of Dr. Michael Snowden, Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion. Dr. Snowden will be leaving the university to pursue other endeavors. We are grateful for his dedication to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for our university community.
