The 4th annual Flavor of Louisiana fundraiser and seafood extravaganza was held this weekend featuring live music and a variety of food and beverage vendors from across the state. The event was a huge success drawing a crowd of over 800 and raising over $90,000 for student scholarships. The Flavor of Louisiana event kicked off a weekend of activities celebrating 100 years of Greek life at NSU. Hundreds of fraternity and sorority alumni attended a variety of events including open houses, chapter meetings, decade parties, formal ceremonies, and a riverfront festival downtown. As part of the festivities, the Greek 100 for 100 Awards were presented to fraternity and sorority alumni who have made significant contributions to Greek life at NSU. The Greek 100 for 100 Award recipients will form the inaugural class of the NSU Greek Life Hall of Fame.

This past Saturday, Demon Football held their 31st Annual Joe Delaney Bowl followed by the Demon Brothers Booster Club at Cane River Brewing Co. for a chance to meet several of the new faces surrounding the Demon football team. The team was able to show off the effort and energy they have put into spring practice as well as give fans a closer look into our offense and defense for this upcoming season.

The Bayou North AHEC hosted the Annual Healthcare Career Exploration Day on campus this week, providing AHEC students hands on experience through programs in Nursing, Radiologic Sciences, Biological Sciences, Psychology, and Health and Human Performances. The event created opportunities for the departments to showcase their strengths and teaching strategies and to give students unique and worthwhile educational experiences.   In addition to highlighting NSU academic programs, these activities allow our faculty and staff to interact with prospective students and expand their awareness of the excellence of Northwestern’s academic and extracurricular programs. This annual event is an important component of our recruiting plan for a number of degree programs offered at the university.

The National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST) has approved a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Production & Design for the university. All technical students currently enrolled and interested in switching degree plans to the BFA, should contact the Registrar’s Office. Graduating seniors are still eligible to receive the BFA degree at spring commencement in May.  Please make an appointment with your advisor to assure that you meet all requirements for the degree. Dr. Tammy Curtis in the School of Allied Health has received approval for a $116,200 grant proposal that was submitted to the Board of Regents Support Fund Departmental Enhancement Program for digital radiography equipment. The funding will be used to add a state-of-the-art digital radiography suite to the Shreveport campus. The digital radiography equipment matches what is being currently used in the clinical environment and ensures that radiologic science students are well-prepared to excel in their clinical courses.

Our Student-Athlete Development team will be hosting the Vic’s Choice Awards presented by La Capital Federal Credit Union this coming Monday, April 18th in the Student Union Ballroom. The Vic’s Choice Awards show is our version of the EPSY award and will highlight all of the athletic and academic achievements of our student-athletes for the 2021-2022 school year.  The purple carpet will begin at 6:15pm with dinner and the awards ceremony to follow and is open to invited guests only.

Congratulations to the Women’s Tennis team for winning the regular season Southland Conference Championship when they swept Nicholls 7-0.  It is the Lady Demons first regular season title since 2014 and only the second undefeated conference run in program history.

The University Programming Council will host the annual Fork Out Fest Thursday, April 21, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Seven Oaks Stage. Students are invited to join for food, fun and giveaways. The event will feature a twisted ride obstacle course, photo booth, live music, crawfish, corn dogs, funnel cakes and more. Don’t miss this enjoyable event as we near the close of the spring semester.
